About the trip
Learn how to calculate distance, comprehend grid references, and create your own routes in this one-day course that covers the fundamentals of map reading. You will also learn how to use features like walls and roads to guide you.
In order to prevent becoming lost, you'll also learn the fundamentals of using a compass and how to utilize it in conjunction with a map.
There may be around 10 miles of walking per day.
We can be flexible on locations around the UK and Scotland. Please let us know where you're based and we'll arrange a suitable spot with one of our qualified outdoor guides.

DAY 1
Make plans and employ a range of navigation techniques.
Learn to recognize basic map elements and utilize them for navigation.
Practice utilizing railing features, aiming off, and adopting planned navigation.
Practice aiming off, measuring distances, and double-checking railings with the compass.
Practice pace intervals and timings on a range of surfaces.
Using low light and darkness to test our accuracy as navigators (short days are great for this!)
Acknowledge when we have made a navigational mistake and know how to correct it
Examine various personal kits and equipment to determine how adequate and appropriate they are.
