This course is an introduction into the skills used to stay safe hillwalking in winter and will be based in Scotland. Your guide will be fully qualified and insured. Some basic hill fitness and summer hillwalking experience is required.

About the trip

We will meet in the morning and discuss weather forecasts and a plan for the day. We will set off on a winter walking journey into the mountains and look at skills you'll need to keep yourself safe.

Skills we will look at include:

- Use of ice axe and crampons
- Avalanche awareness
- Winter navigation
- Emergency shelter
- Forecast interpretation

We will aim to meet at 9am and be finished in time for tea and cake by 4pm.
