About the trip
Navigation With Harriet
Already got some skills? Ready to build on them? You already have some understanding of the fundementalss of navigation. Perhaps there’s some gaps you'd like filled or you want to build on the blocks you've already created.
Together we will:
Plan and use a variety of navigational strategies
Start to identify simple features on the map and use them to navigate
Practice implementing planned navigation using features, aiming off, using handrail features
Practice using the compass to measure distances, aim off and double check handrails
Practice timings and pacing distances across a variety of terrains
Using darkness and poor visibility to ensure our navigation skills are accurate (short days are ideal for this!)
Recognise when we have made a navigational error and how to fix it
Look at different personal kit and equipment and how suitable and sufficient it is
Talk about law and legislation that affect us as hill walkers
We move at a pace suitable for all individuals in the group and concentrate on learning skills. Come with as many questions about navigation, gear, boots, the weather and everything in between! Walking up to a maximum of 8km and 200m in height gain.
Small groups, with minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 people on the course.
Location in the Lake District, exact meeting point to be confirmed nearer the time, dependant on the weather and our route.
