About the trip

ITINERARY IS INCORRECT - IT IS MISSING A DAY - PLEASE CONTACT FOR MORE INFORMATION (currently trying to fix this error)

Skuleskogens National Park is the perfect mix of mountains, deep forest and coastline. This is an opportunity to experience the best it has to offer including the spectacular gorge, the beautiful coast line and the views from the top of the mountain, looking over the Gulf of Bothnia and the abundance of uninhabited islands.

This trip is 4 nights of camping and 3 full days of walking and seeing the sites of the national park. At this time of year the sun is usually fairly strong with temperatures hovering between +13C at night and +20C during the day and lows of about +5C at night. From the end of May the days are very long with approximately 20 hours of sunlight and 4 hours of dusk before the sun rises again which makes for a spectacular camping experience.

The park has a number of cabins and shelters which are free to use and have log stoves, firepits and comfortable beds - you will need to bring a good sleeping bag and a roll mat however. The cabins cannot be reserved, they are first come first serve and become very popular at this time of year, therefore it is highly recommended that you bring a tent or a good expedition hammock with insulation to use if we cannot access a cabin for the night.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Arrive at airport (time and date to be confirmed) and meet the team. Taking the hire vehicle we will then make the drive up to Skuleskogen National Park. A stop can be made on route to get extra food supplies if necessary.

Once at the park we will leave the vehicle in the car park and make our way to our first night's camping destination. We will aim to use the cabin but this is not guaranteed. Depending on the time of arrival we will explore the immediate area before making a fire and preparing dinner.

We then retire to bed for a good sleep before our first full day's hike.
DAY 2
Fire to be made then breakfast prepared before packing our kit up ready to go. Leaving at approximately 10:00am we head through the forest before tackling the mountain - this is approximately 300m so shouldn't be too difficult for most people. We come down the other side of the mountain and off towards the canyon. Passing through the canyon we have a lunch break at a lake with a cabin. Depending on the time we could also make a fire here.

After lunch we continue through the park until we hit the coastline. We then follow the coastline halfway down to where a cabin and camping spot is. We have the option to stay at this location or move to the far end of the coastline where there is a shelter but no cabin so camping would definitely be required at this spot.

Fire and dinner is made and then relaxing and bed.
DAY 3
The last full day of expedition. A much easier and steadier day today. We follow the river along and around the base of the mountain before returning to our first night's destination. It's likely we will arrive mid afternoon, so we have plenty of time to rest and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There is a fire outside with a nice shelter to sit and relax in as well as the cabin. Dinner will be made and then bed. Depending on flight times, it could be an early night as we will need to get back to the airport tomorrow.
DAY 4
Going home day.

Depending on flight times, it's an early rise and a short walk back to the car park where we can get changed into 'normal' clothes before making the drive back to the airport and then our onward journey's home.
