Hike To The Top of an Active volcano

Reunion Island
Group size
3 - 12 people
Experience level
Moderate
Duration
6 hours
Distance
12 miles
From the Pas de Bellecombe at 2200 m above sealevel, we hike (nearly) to the top of the volcanic crater named Dolomieu at 2500m. Scenic views, many secondary craters, a highligt especially for amateur geologists and volcanologists.

About the trip

The hike is not very difficult, but this depends also on weather conditions. When there are very bad ones (fog, rain), or if there is a volcanic eruption going on, the trip will be canceled.
We are trespassing through a lunar landscape with very little vegetation. You can see many recent lava flows, secondary craters and the big caldera inside the Dolomieu crater.
Kids with experience an adapted equipment are welcome.
We will be going back to the car park by the same track.
