The hiking trip, runs the south coast line of Crete Island, one of the most pure, unspoiled, and isolated areas of the South Europe. Splendid sea side and mountain trails, overnights in traditional seafront villages, Greek hospitality and fine food.

About the trip

Crete is a majestic island and well known from the mythology as a place full of myths and well kept secrets...
Nowadays, the island of King Minoas welcomes the hikers at the very south end of Europe, for or a hiking adventure of huge diversity… Crystal sea waters, high mountains, magnificent gorges and canyons in an extended seaside trail.

During the hike, the guests will experience a unique combination of Mythology, culture, history, home made Mediterranean food, and unspoiled nature as the trip runs the south coastline of Crete / Chania region, one of the most virgin and isolated ar-eas of southern Europe.

Daily walks are approximately 5 hours, on seaside and mountain trails, close to beaches and seafront villages where we will overnight.
Mediterranean homemade food, fish and exceptional wine, Greek hospitality and traditional Cretan dances will all be part of this adventure, every afternoon before the sunset.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Day 1: Meeting in Crete Island / Heraklion town – Hiking Mount Ida - The Very Top Of Crete

Meeting with the guests in Heraklion town. Transfer towards the foothills of Mount Ida.
Today we will hike the birth place of Zeus and the Very Top of Crete at an altitude of 2456m.
The summit views towards the Aegean Sea and the African Coast Line are stunning.

Duration : 6 hours
Vertical ascent : 1000m

Late afternoon, transfer towards Chania town.
Settle down in a hotel - Overnight
DAY 2
Day 2: Hiking Samaria Gorge

Transfer to Samaria Gorge entrance.
The longest and most well known gorge in Europe welcomes the hikers. Today we will hike 12 miles of unspoiled nature inside the gorge and finally we will exit at the Mediterranean Sea - Agia Roumeli sea front village.

Duration: 6 – 7 hours
Vertical drop: 1250m
Relaxation, swimming and pure traditional Mediterranean food is the recipe to finish the day. Overnight stay in a guest house.
DAY 3
Day 3: Agia Roumeli – White Mountains – St. John

Breakfast and follow the seaside trail towards St. John village. As we are moving away form any human presence, will enjoy the magnificent view almost to the Afri-can coastline, we will talk about the wild herbs and flowers, the history and mythology and finally, we will access St. John mountain village.

Duration: 5 – 6 hours
Vertical ascent: 800m

Settle down in a traditional guest house, dinner with home made Cretan food and briefing about the next day schedule.
DAY 4
Day 4: Hiking Aradaina Gorge

Breakfast at the guest house and access the Aradaina Gorge.
Shorter and less demanding than Samaria Gorge, this hidden gem of the Cretan nature, surprises the hikers with the smells of the Mediterranean herbs, the wild an-imals, and the impressive rock formations.
The Marble Beach is our destination. A small hidden and isolated bay, where we will relax and swim.

Duration: 4 hours
Vertical Drop: 600m

Late afternoon, transfer with a boat to Loutro village, the most iconic and magnifi-cent part of the south Crete.
Settle down in a seafront hotel and ready for a great dinner.
DAY 5
Day 5: Loutro Bay – Hiking to Phoenix Bay

The diversity of today's schedule is unique

The nature around Loutro is magnificent, and today we will experience the trails of the ancient Cretan farmers from one village to the other.
Late afternoon, hike back to the village and overnight.
DAY 6
Day 6 : Loutro Bay - Sfakia

Via a magnificent seaside trail, we will access the marvelous Sweet Waters beach and finally the historic Sfakia village.
Duration: 4 hours

The nearby Iligas Beach is another well-kept secret of the area. We'll spend some time in the village and early afternoon transfer towards Chania town.
