Carry a bag that is lightweight and has everything you need, don't forget if you choose to hike with a dog ensure you remember to carry a dog bowl and water. 

Good hiking boots are essential - probably the most important factor for any hiker. Ensure you get boots that are comfortable, fit well and suitable for the terrain you chose to endure. 

We recommend you try practice hikes to begin with, ideally a route you know well 

Try to hike as often as possible to stay in shape and keep your body prepared for longer routes, you will be enduring long hikes in no time.
